Chapter 01 — Founding

A Letter from the Engineers Who Couldn’t Find a Wallpaper.

In the spring of 2017, two dual-monitor engineers in a small San Francisco apartment set out to find a single clean wallpaper for their new 32-inch displays. What they found instead was a catalog of stretched stock photos, watermarked comps, and the same five images recycled across a hundred sites. So they started collecting their own.

What began as a shared Dropbox folder between two friends became, eight years later, a 14-person studio shipping forty new curated wallpapers every single morning — color-graded, aspect-ratio verified, and delivered in every resolution from a 6.1-inch phone screen to a 49-inch ultrawide. We have never used an algorithm to pick a wallpaper. We never will.

Forty Wallpapers. Every Morning. Nine AM EST.

The daily drop is the heartbeat of the site. Each weekday at 9:00 AM EST — and 12:00 PM on weekends — forty brand-new curated wallpapers appear across our themed collections. They are graded, aspect-ratio verified, and shipped in six native resolutions including 5120×1440 ultrawide, 4K UHD, 2K QHD, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPad Pro, and Steam Deck.

Subscribers get a short curator’s note with each drop — one paragraph explaining the photograph, the color palette, and which screen the curator had in mind when they chose it.
